The Cree Indians have a government, they live in bands, they hunt for most of their food, and they have a special religion. The Cree live a special life in central Canada.

First, the Cree have a government for their tribe. The Cree government has a chief for each band of Cree. The chief is the ruler of the band. They also have a council. Councils make the decisions for the band. Assistant chiefs, or deputy chiefs, are a big help for the band. They help the chief rule the band.
The way the Cree live is a big success to them. About three-fourths of the Cree are hunters. The hunters hunt for buffalo, deer, and moose. The Cree lived in central Canada. They are the biggest Indian group in Canada. In 2000, they had about 200,000 Cree in their tribe. The Cree honor generosity and bravery. Honoring generosity and bravery is a big thing to do in the Cree tribe.
The Cree hunt a lot of animals. Buffalo, deer, and moose is mostly what they eat. They also have people called gatherers. The gatherers gather wild rice and berries. The gatherers are men and women.
Their religion is a big part of their life to them. At their religious ceremonies, the Cree do a lot of dances. Also, they believed in great spirits. One spirit that they believed in was the Guardian Spirit. The vision quest was a quest that they go on to find their own guardian spirit. In the 1800s, Christian missionaries came to the Cree. The Cree accepted the new religion, but it did not take over their own religion. Instead, they learn both religions.
Finally, the Cree are a big Indian group. They live in central Canada. The Cree hunted, believed in spirits, worked hard, and had a government. The Cree are an awesome tribe of Indians.
